Shame on you Facebook

The worst part is that it will take you 30 minutes to deactivate all this crap. Why on earth would they opt you in on all this crap? Oh wait, that's because the CEO made $3 BILLION last year...

A guide to protecting your information on the New Facebook

By now, you've probably heard that Facebook has made some big changes that affect your privacy. However, you might not know what they are. So far, the changes have been explained in the language of the people that they benefit: companies and app developers. What about us, the end users? Here's a handy collection of the best tips that we could find for protecting your privacy on Facebook's wild new frontier.
Obviously, the best way to keep your information private on Facebook is to not have a Facebook page. You can deactivate your account using the link at the bottom of the account settings page, which hides your info and gives you the option to reactivate later and pick up where you left off. If you're looking for a full, permanent, once-and-for-all Delete Account link, you can find it inFacebook's help center.

If you're not going to delete your account, you should (at a minimum) pop open your Application Settings and delete any Facebook apps that you aren't using. Under new Facebook rules, apps can hold onto your info as long as they like (as opposed to the old limit of 24 hours). That makes using apps more convenient (you don't have to authorize them repeatedly), but it also means that you're trusting them a lot more. If you don't trust or don't use an app, just hit that X and disconnect it from your account.

Another new Facebook feature that you have to be careful of is that all of your interests and favorites (and even your hometown) will be linked to Facebook pages now. These will be visible to search engines and anyone who finds your page. To get around this, you can delete that info altogether, or move it to the freeform "About Me" box.

There's also a sneaky new preference called Instant Personalization that you've been automatically opted into (gee, thanks Facebook!) This is that "Facebook automatically shares ALL of your data with its special partner sites" feature I wrote about last month, and now it's here. So far, the partners are Yelp, Microsoft's Docs.com, and Pandora. Go ahead and find Instant Personalization in preferences under Applications and Web sites and uncheck it.

Facebook warns you that even unchecking Instant Personalization won't stop your friends from automatically sharing your info to personalize their experiences on the partner sites. Friends who don't care about privacy are a major leak on Facebook, so you'll also want to uncheck every single box under the "What your friends can share about you" section of the preferences. It's under Applications and Web sites.

Of course, it doesn't help to keep your friends from sharing your info if you're sharing it yourself. To make sure you're not, go to Profile Information, and make sure everything is set to Only Friends. It's a tedious process, but it's highly recommended.

Remember, the only way to guarantee that Facebook won't share, sell, or expose your information is to not put that information on Facebook at all. Of course, Facebook is harder and harder to avoid as it becomes a more useful, more essential part of the Web. It's important to take basics steps in order to make sure you're only sharing what you want to

More than three years after a Brooklyn teacher's car was stolen, she finally got her ride back - totally pimped out.
Amanda Pogany's once-humble white 1996 Honda Accord was returned to her drag-race ready, with a brand-new V-8 engine, tinted windows, oversized tires with special hubcaps - and custom valve stem caps shaped like bullet casings.
"When I first saw under the hood I thought it looked like, you know in the movie 'Grease?' Like the 'Grease Lightning' car," said Pogany, 31, who lives in Prospect Heights.
The eighth-grade teacher was shocked when she picked up her long-lost vehicle in the Red Hook impound lot this month.
The previous "owner" souped up the Accord, putting in a manual transmission and leather interior and hanging a Dominican flag and a giant wooden cross from the rearview mirror.
"I'm Jewish," Pogany said, "and I don't even know how to drive a stick shift!"
When the car disappeared from her block in 2006, Pogany said cops laughed when she asked about tracking it down
So she and her husband, Aaron, assumed thieves had already stripped the poor little Honda for its parts.
"It was goodbye to the car," Pogany said.
Now the proud mother of a 1-year-old, Pogany had basically forgotten about the car, simply using the car-sharing service Zipcar instead.
Then she got a call from the NYPD.
An officer told Pogany that cops found her Honda while busting a Queens chop shop and were able to trace it back to her even though the VIN number had been filed off.
"I was like, 'Shut up!'" said Pogany, who teaches Judaic Studies and Hebrew language at the Solomon Schechter School of Manhattan.
Turns out, a major car enthusiast bought the Honda from the thieves and then put a ton of work into it, police told her. He was in the middle of paying to put in the brand-new transmission when the raid occurred.
After months of phone calls and dealing with NYPD red tape, Pogany finally got her vehicle back.
"The whole thing has been a little crazy - and hysterical," said Pogany.
She's still waiting to take it for a joyride, though. Friends have begged for a turn behind the wheel and promised to give her stick-shift lessons, but Pogany still needs to get the Honda a new VIN number and registration.
Until then, the hotrod is parked in her parents' New Jersey driveway, where it's been getting plenty of attention.
"The mailman rang the bell the other day and asked about it," she said. "Everyone wants to buy the car now."

Man Looses Finger Over iPad

A brazen theft in the Cherry Creek Mall left the victim with a permanent injury to his hand. He had just bought an iPad as a favor for a friend.

Bill Jordan told CBS4 he moved his family to Colorado from New Jersey 15 years ago to get away from a crime there. Now after the iPad theft, he said his life and the life of his family will never be the same.

"I saw just a bone, all the skin and tendons and everything were off," Jordan said, describing the violent robbery that tore off part of his finger.

"It's like a bad dream," he said.

Last Thursday afternoon the 59-year-old Aurora man walked into the Apple store to pick up an iPad for a co-worker.

"I had been asked by one of my colleagues in Canada to pick up an iPad for someone who is being promoted."

Jordan left the store with his iPad bag tied around his hand. Unreleased surveillance film shows two young men following him.

"The film shows them walking right behind me down the stairs as I was going out the store."

A few feet from the doors to the parking garage Jordan felt a violent tugging at his arm. He looked down and saw a young man trying to grab his bag.

"He was almost sitting on the ground he was pulling so hard and it was still tied around my fingers; and it wouldn't come off and then finally he gave it one big jerk; and that's when he stripped the skin off my pinky and it went right down to the bone."

The robber grabbed the iPad and ran out of the mall.

Jordan said he went into shock and used napkins from a food vendor to try and stop the bleeding. Paramedics rushed him to a hand surgeon who told him part of his left pinky would have to be amputated.

Now with his hand covered in bandages and his life changed forever, Jordan has a message for the brazen criminals who changed his life forever.

"I hope you understand what you've done to my life and my family's life for a simple piece of apparatus that'll be junk in a couple of years."

18 months?

I was hoping that this chick was going to get more than this! I can't believe that this even happened. As a person under the ultimate control of a Shiba Inu, along with being an animal lover I am horrified that  this even happened. Really what kind of a sick fuck does one need to be to even think of something like this. I have meet some pretty disturbed people in my time but this chick takes the cake. I do not promote violence in any regard, especially against women but this is one individual that I would love to see taped upside down to a flagpole for a while.
